Going out with the girls

Going out with two of my dearest friends today for dinner. Both are a tad older then me and have a lot of health issues. Both are slaves to their doctors and are on several medications. One is addicted to pain killers and can only stay out for short periods of time before her skin starts crawling and she needs another fix. However, she keeps telling me that my eating a lot of eggs and bacon is bad for me.

I haven't kept my diet a secret and I haven't been pushing it on them, but you would think that they would at least do some research on their own. Instead of being pro-active with their health they just trust everything to their doctors and think that all their problems are caused by just being old. It is so sad.

  1. a LOT of people have an incredible faith in their physicians -- i'm amazed by this attitude. :-) but then, perhaps television "normalizes" the reliance on pharmaceuticals in modern society through sitcoms as well as advertisements! when i hear what proportion of people take antidepressants these days, it just astonished.... perhaps your friends ASSUME you too are drugged!

    1. They know I'm not on any meds and I've tried to explain my stellar bloodwork results but they don't understand the stats. They've never even asked for their results figuring the doctor knows all. Sad.

  2. Couple days ago our houseguest left - the lady who went to go to a university with my husband. She is a well educated smart woman with a very advanced degree in science. Her mother who lives with her had a MI couple years ago and now on Lipitor and on a low-fat diet. I tried to say something about the statines/mental health connection (the mom's memory nose-dived and she has some hallucinations now like people visit her at night). The lady told me that her doctor reassured her about the safety of Lipitor. Some very educated people believe to other specialists too much.

    1. I understand completely. My cousin, who is a lot smarter than I am and a bit older, responded to an email I sent her providing a link to an article written by two doctors which appeared in the AHA newsletter that criticized the AHA dietary advice and the use of statins. I don't think she read it and responded that she had complete faith in her doctor as she felt he kept up with the latest literature. How's that for trusting an overworked doctor. Of course she's on statins, blood pressure meds, diabetes meds, heart and stroke meds and god know what else.

  3. We can only do our best to share our lifestyle and health news and views with others. I for one are so pleased that LCHF works so well for me. My friends know my 'eating habits' - when we are out we all choose what each of us wants to eat. We enjoy the friendship, talk and laughs ....

    Enjoy your outing

    All the best Jan
